I am an English teacher.... for your information in the native speaker programme, the native speakers started with year 1 in 2011. n then they continued the programme with year 2 in 2012 and year 3 in 2013. the native speakers basically they followed KPM's KPI(key performance index). for example, they started the prog in schools in 2011 with year 1 and year 2 but they focused more to year 1. then, the native speakers focused more t0 year 2 in 2012 n year 3 in 2013. yup, we,English teachers under this programme, we had a debate with one of our PPD ELO during post mortem of this programme. we asked her why we must involve in this programme... why the KPM do not hire retired English teachers since they have a lot of knowledge and experience too... she answered that is because the KPM wanted English teachers to communicate in English.... sadly to say, most of english teachers communicate in BM when they meet in courses, workshops and so on. thus, the KPM hoped this programme will encourage teachers to communicate in English among the native speakers and English teachers. it was not right to say there is no positive effect on English education.... my year 3 kids, 16 out of 31 students get A's in English subjects.... yup, they are the first generation of the programme, they could answer his questions very well.... actually it depends on the teachers itself. I work hard to make sure my kids are able to segment single syllable words into phonemes and blending the phonemes into correct word. I use variety of teaching aids such as phonics videos, flash cards, phonics books, letter blocks, worksheets and so on. I bought phonics dvds from overseas just to give the best to my kids. They loved it so much and they always hoped to watch those videos everyday. the main factor to improve english fluency among our kids depends on English teachers. some teachers they are so lazy to bring the kids to the computer lab or making some interesting teaching aids. they still use chalk and talk. then, there is no point to hire native speakers if the English teachers do not try to change their negative attitude. I love my kids and I do not want their english teachers in year 4 to blame me if his/her child is not good/weak in English. If we are sincere towards our kids and profession, our kids will be fluent in English In Sha Allah. teaching is noble profession indeed. but I am happy the programme is terminated because I could not take it anymore being observe every week for almost 3 years. even though he went back to his country, we still keep in touch. I still try to give the best to my kids.... I love English so much since I was in standard five because my English teacher was amazing and she was able to make me understand the grammar n so on..... thank you cikgu...I love you so much. u cultivate my love for English ♥
